A landslip warning has been issued for the Shillong-Dawki route in Meghalaya due to the continuous rains.

Authorities in Meghalaya have issued a travel advisory after continuous rainfall rendered a stretch of the Shillong-Dawki road between Km 24+00 and Km 37+00 highly vulnerable to landslides. Commuters are urged to avoid non-essential travel as weather conditions remain severe across the state.

Additionally, heavy overnight rain has led to waterlogging and slow-moving traffic along National Highway-6, particularly in the 9th Mile, 12th Mile, and Jorabat areas. Ri Bhoi Police are actively clearing debris, including uprooted trees, to restore traffic flow. The public is advised to stay alert and follow official updates.

To control the unlawful selling of radio equipment on e-commerce websites, the centre provides an advisory.

The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued strict guidelines to curb the illegal sale of radio equipment, including walkie-talkies, on e-commerce platforms. Issued under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, the 2025 guidelines aim to prevent the unauthorised sale of wireless devices that may interfere with law enforcement and emergency communication networks.

The advisory mandates that no radio equipment requiring Department of Telecommunications (DoT) frequency assignment may be sold online unless by an authorised dealer listed on the Saral Sanchar portal. It also requires product listings to include frequency specifications and regulatory approval details, while banning misleading advertisements and the online sale of mobile signal boosters and wireless jammers.

Turkey and Bangladesh want to build joint defence production plants in Narayanganj and Chittagong.

As Bangladesh continues to procure military hardware from China, it is simultaneously deepening strategic defence ties with Turkey. During a recent visit to Turkey, BIDA Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun held extensive discussions on establishing defence industrial clusters in Chittagong and Narayanganj. The visit included rare access to the facilities of Turkish defence giant Makine ve Kimya Endustrisi (MKE), with talks focusing on co-production, technology transfer, and capacity building.

This engagement builds on earlier defence acquisitions from Turkey, including MKE howitzers and TRG rocket systems, and signals a shift toward industrial integration. Future collaborations are expected to be formalized through a memorandum of understanding and overseen by a proposed Defence Industrial Working Group. These initiatives fall under the incentives of the Bangladesh Economic Zones Act 2010, underscoring the country’s push for defence self-reliance and strategic diversification.

Mizoram and Tripura Police look into government building damage close to the disputed border.

Authorities in Tripura and Mizoram are conducting parallel probes after unidentified individuals severely damaged an under-construction eco-tourism facility in Phuldungsei village, near the inter-state border. The Tripura Forest Department had been developing the site when the attack occurred late Tuesday night.
While officials confirm the border remains peaceful, Mizoram sources suggest explosives may have been used, intensifying concerns. Security forces have been deployed on both sides to prevent escalation. Given the history of disputed areas along the 109-km border, local civil society groups have previously objected to Tripura-led infrastructure projects. Investigations continue, with officials working to maintain stability and identify those responsible.

Elon Musk, a tech entrepreneur, leaves the cabinet of US President Donald Trump.

Elon Musk has announced his departure as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a task force created by the Trump administration to curb federal waste. Appointed as a Special Government Employee with a 130-day service term per year, Musk’s tenure concluded around May 30.

In a post on X, Musk expressed gratitude to President Donald Trump for the opportunity and stated that the DOGE mission will continue to grow stronger. However, Musk’s exit was notably preceded by his first public criticism of Trump, where he condemned a newly passed spending bill that, in his view, increased the federal deficit and undermined DOGE’s goals.

Why Dhaka is taking so long to announce ambassadors who would be replacing those who were removed from Yangon.

Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry is grappling with internal instability following the abrupt recall of Ambassador Mohammad Monowar Hossain from Myanmar. The move, reportedly linked to Myanmar’s concerns over Dhaka’s engagement with the Arakan Army, comes amid broader diplomatic tensions.
Additionally, Military Attache Brigadier General Mohammad Aftab Hossain was declared persona non grata by Myanmar’s military government, further straining relations. The Yunus-led interim regime has yet to provide a clear rationale for these diplomatic shifts, fueling speculation of discord within Bangladesh’s foreign policy apparatus.
Amid concerns over the proposed humanitarian corridor and its implications for national sovereignty, military leadership has voiced strong opposition, adding to the uncertainty surrounding Dhaka’s diplomatic strategy in the region.
