In a major crackdown on organized drug syndicates, security forces in Manipur, with support from the Assam Rifles, seized over 57 kilograms of methamphetamine tablets valued at approximately Rs. 22 crores. The illicit consignment, smuggled through the Indo-Myanmar border and bound for Silchar, Assam, was intercepted in Imphal West district after being concealed in the roof ceiling of a Tata truck. The driver, Nawaj Sharif, was arrested at the scene. This operation highlights the growing challenge of narcotics trafficking in Northeast India, where porous borders and insurgent activities facilitate the movement of drugs, posing significant threats to regional security and public health.
