Tezpur University VC faces new accusations about the hiring of a faculty member in Hindi.

Fresh allegations of corruption have surfaced against Tezpur University Vice Chancellor Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh, who is accused of irregularities in the recruitment of Dr. Goma Devi Sharma as Assistant Professor in the Hindi Department. Despite Dr. Sharma initially being excluded from the shortlist due to lack of required qualifications and questionable experience certificates, Singh allegedly pressured the screening committee to include and favor her. He reportedly intimidated departmental staff, replaced experts on the interview panel with his own nominees, and ensured her appointment despite other qualified candidates. Post-appointment, Dr. Sharma was granted preferential treatment, including hostel wardenship and university housing, bypassing senior faculty. Faculty members aware of the irregularities have faced harassment and blocked promotions. These allegations have fueled ongoing protests demanding the Vice Chancellor’s removal amid broader accusations of corruption and administrative misconduct at the university.
