Physician Detained on Charges of Alleged Patient Molestation at Clinic.
In a shocking case, a physician at a private clinic in the Six Mile locality of Guwahati has been charged with molesting a young female patient under the guise of therapy. The accused identified as Subrata Dey is also said to have secretly recorded female patients during their medical consultations.
The incident was revealed when the victim lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at Dispur Police Station, which led to the immediate intervention of law enforcers. The accused doctor was arrested late at night and brought to custody for interrogation.
According to the victim, she had been receiving treatment for back pain since the previous month. She reported feeling uncomfortable during her sessions, stating, “While giving therapy, the doctor touched me in different parts and I felt uneasy. Today, I went for the same treatment, but I couldn’t remain silent as it was crossing limits, and he was recording a video from my back.”
The case has triggered severe doubts on patient safety and ethics in all private health clinics in the area. The police are also investigating the case deeper to ascertain the extent of Dey’s actions and whether there is another victim or victims.
Earlier, in a shocking case of human trafficking, Niladri Shekhar Das, a doctor at Sribhumi District Civil Hospital, was charged with illegally selling a newborn baby to a couple for monetary reward.
It is reported that the incident started when a woman went to the doctor requesting an abortion. The doctor, however, is said to have convinced her to give birth to the child. Once the woman gave birth to a baby girl at a private medical facility, Das is reported to have arranged for the illegal transfer of the child to another couple for money.
