MAJOR ARMS HAUL IN MAKHABASTI: ASSAM RIFLES AND MANIPUR POLICE RECOVER DEADLY CACHE IN JOINT OPERATION
Jiribam | June 22, 2025 : In a major breakthrough for counter-insurgency efforts in Manipur, the Assam Rifles, in close coordination with Manipur Police, recovered a significant cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives during a meticulously planned search operation in Makhabasti village, Jiribam district. This operation follows the successful apprehension of an active NSCN (Niki Sumi) cadre earlier this week, further intensifying the security clampdown in the region.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the joint forces launched a systematic search in the area, resulting in the seizure of a dangerous stockpile of weapons believed to pose a serious threat to public security and peace in the district.

Recovered Items Include:
- One 7.62mm SLR Rifle
- One locally fabricated SLR Rifle
- One 5.56mm INSAS Rifle
- One 5.56mm M4 Carbine
- Four locally made Single Barrel Rifles
- One locally made pistol
- One Pompi with four Pompi bombs
- One No. 36 Hand Grenade
- Several Rifle Magazines
- Nine 7.62mm SLR Rifle Rounds
- Five 5.56mm INSAS Rifle Rounds
- Sixty 7.62mm AK-47 Rounds
- Cortex wires and approximately 200 grams of PEK (Plastic Explosive)
Authorities confirmed that many of the recovered items could have been looted during periods of unrest or were in possession of individuals attempting to destabilize the region through armed disruption. The seizure is regarded as a serious countermeasure against insurgent capabilities.
A senior security official remarked, “This operation is part of our continued effort to recover arms still circulating within civilian and insurgent elements. We have already identified several individuals and groups, and let it be clear—no one will be spared.”

The forces reiterated their commitment to peace and public safety, stressing that such operations will continue until full stability is restored in the district. Local residents have expressed their appreciation for the timely and coordinated action, viewing it as a major step in ensuring long-term security.
This high-impact operation reflects the growing synergy between Assam Rifles and Manipur Police, and reaffirms their determination to eliminate the threat of illegal arms and insurgency from Manipur’s vulnerable zones.
