
District Launch of “STOP Diarrhea Campaign 2025” Held at S.M. Deb Civil Hospital, Silchar
Silchar, July 10: In an earnest drive towards public health awareness and child care, the District-Level Launching of the “STOP Diarrhea Campaign 2025” was held today at the Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) of S.M. Deb Civil Hospital (SMDCH), Silchar. The event marked a collaborative initiative aimed at curbing the spread and fatality of diarrheal diseases, especially among children.
The programme was inaugurated in the presence of Dr. Arun Debnath, Deputy Superintendent of SMDCH, Dr. S.K. Roy, Nodal Officer of NRC, and Dr. Hamida Sultana, Senior Medical & Health Officer. The session was also attended by Ujjal Das, District Community Mobilizer (DCM), Ikbal Bahar Laskar, District Coordinator of RBSK, Ishradur Rahman, Counsellor, along with the dedicated nursing staff, NRC inmates, their guardians, and other healthcare beneficiaries.
During the session, Dr. S.K. Roy and Dr. Hamida Sultana provided comprehensive insights into diarrhoea, elaborating on its causes, symptoms, prevention methods, and the critical importance of timely intervention. They emphasized the need for community-level awareness, especially in households with vulnerable children.
DCM Ujjal Das and District Coordinator Ikbal Bahar Laskar further addressed the gathering, focusing on early treatment protocols, the role of ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution) in saving lives, and the referral mechanisms for children suffering from severe dehydration due to diarrhoea.
A visual presentation was conducted to enhance understanding among the participants. The video detailed the symptoms of diarrhoea, the life-saving utility of ORS, and a step-by-step demonstration of ORS preparation using easily available materials.
To reinforce the learning, a live demonstration on ORS preparation was conducted for the guardians. ORS packets were also distributed to the attendees, with clear instructions on their use during emergency situations.
The campaign is a part of a nationwide initiative under the National Health Mission (NHM) to reduce child mortality rates by promoting preventive health care, particularly in remote and underserved areas. The day’s activities highlighted a strong synergy between government health departments and on-ground healthcare providers working tirelessly for a healthier tomorrow.
