Cachar District Administration to Celebrate National Sports Day 2025 with Three-Day Programme

BarakOutlet News | Silchar: The District Administration of Cachar has extended a cordial invitation to the public to join in celebrating National Sports Day 2025, observed to mark the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand. The celebrations will be held over three consecutive days — 29th, 30th, and 31st August — across different venues in Silchar and Borkhola.

According to the official programme released by the administration, the events will begin on 29th August 2025 with a district-level celebration at the DSA Silchar Indoor Stadium. The programme will include a floral tribute to Major Dhyan Chand followed by a badminton competition, commencing at 10:30 AM onwards.

On the second day, 30th August 2025, a senior citizens’ chess competition will be organised at Narsing Higher Secondary School, Silchar, starting at 1:00 PM.

The concluding event will take place on 31st August 2025, featuring an open cycle rally from Raja G.C. Higher Secondary School, Borkhola, at 7:00 AM.

District Commissioner Mridul Yadav, IAS, in his official invitation, expressed that the participation of citizens from all walks of life will add strength and vibrancy to the celebrations. The administration has urged people to attend in large numbers to honour the memory of Major Dhyan Chand and to promote the spirit of sportsmanship in society.

National Sports Day, observed annually on 29th August, not only commemorates one of India’s greatest sporting icons but also serves as a reminder of the importance of physical fitness, discipline, and collective participation in nation-building through sports.

The people of Cachar are eagerly anticipating the events, which are expected to draw wide participation from sports enthusiasts, students, and the general public alike.
