
Assam Govt Declares September 3 as Paid Holiday for Karam Puja in Tea Plantations
Dispur, August 29: The Government of Assam has officially declared September 3, 2025, as a paid holiday in connection with the celebration of Karam Puja across tea plantations, including tea factories in the state.
The order, issued by the Labour Welfare Department (Labour RC Branch), Dispur, under the direction of the Governor of Assam, emphasizes the recognition of Karam Puja as an important cultural and religious observance for tea garden workers and their families.
The notification (No. E 285694/257), signed by Abhijit Baruah, Commissioner & Secretary to the Govt. of Assam, Labour Welfare Department, was circulated to all relevant government authorities, including the Chief Minister’s Office, ministers, senior bureaucrats, the Director General of Police, and all District Commissioners, to ensure its implementation across the state.
Karam Puja, traditionally observed with devotion in tea garden communities, symbolizes the worship of the Karam tree, considered sacred for agricultural prosperity and communal harmony. The recognition of this festival through an official paid holiday reflects the government’s commitment to honouring the cultural ethos of Assam’s tea workers.
