A police encounter in the Goalpara area of Assam claimed the lives of four dacoits.

B O News Desk :  Four dacoits were killed in a police encounter in Ghiladubi area of Goalpara district on Sunday, officials confirmed.

The operation was carried out following intelligence inputs about the presence of an armed gang near the Assam-Meghalaya border.

Goalpara Senior Superintendent of Police Nabaneet Mahanta said the police had been monitoring the gang for several days.

“We received specific information this morning that the gang was planning a kidnapping or other criminal activities. In response, coordinated checkpoints were set up,” he said.

According to Mahanta, the gang was traveling in a car when they encountered one of the checkpoints.

“They tried to flee but couldn’t turn back the vehicle and opened fire on our team. Our personnel fired in retaliation,” he added.

All four criminals sustained injuries in the gunfight and were taken to a nearby hospital, where they were declared dead.

Authorities recovered four pistols, five mobile phones, two walkie-talkie sets, and cartridges from the vehicle.

Mahanta said the police are investigating whether more members of the gang were involved and assured that operations will continue to prevent further criminal activity in the area.
