Paddy fields are devastated, and the threat of monkeys exacerbates farmers’ problems in Bokakhat in Assam.
B O News Desk : Farmers in Bokakhat are reeling under a new wave of distress as troops of monkeys have begun ravaging paddy fields that are on the verge of harvest. The fresh menace has compounded the woes of the local farming community, which was already grappling with recurring wild elephant incursions in the region.
According to local reports, hundreds of monkeys have been invading vast stretches of paddy fields, destroying standing crops and causing significant economic loss. Farmers who labored tirelessly through the season now find their ripening grains torn and trampled, crushing their hopes of a fruitful yield.
With no official intervention so far, villagers have taken matters into their own hands spending entire days chasing away the marauding animals using sticks, loud noises, and even smoke from burning chilies in desperate attempts to save their crops.
The relentless attacks have left the farmers mentally and financially distressed, as they fear that this unexpected crisis could wipe out months of hard work. Many have urged the authorities to step in and find a sustainable solution to control the growing population of monkeys and protect agricultural livelihoods in the area.
