
22,944 PMAY-G House Sanction Letters and First Installment Released in Hailakandi
Hailakandi | 9 December: A major milestone in rural housing development was achieved in Hailakandi district on Tuesday with the distribution of 22,944 sanction letters under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G), along with the disbursement of the first installment to beneficiaries.
Organised by the District Panchayat & Rural Development Department, two separate ceremonies were held—one at Rabindra Bhawan, Hailakandi, and another at Sadbhavana Mandap, Katlicherra—where beneficiaries received their sanction documents. The first installment of ₹32,500 was transferred directly to their bank accounts via DBT.




In the Hailakandi Legislative Assembly constituency, a total of 6,571 housing units were sanctioned. In the Algapur–Katlicherra constituency, 16,373 units received approval. The distribution by block is as follows: Algapur Block – 7,782, Hailakandi Block – 3,709, Katlicherra Block – 1,757, Lala Block – 8,591, and South Hailakandi Block – 1,105.
Under PMAY-G, beneficiaries will receive ₹48,750 in the second installment and another ₹48,750 in the third installment to complete the construction of their houses. Alongside housing assistance, beneficiaries will also receive complementary support such as toilets under Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin, electricity connections under Pradhan Mantri Saubhagya Yojana, drinking water connections under the Jal Jeevan Mission, and LPG connections under PM Ujjwala Yojana.
Both events in Hailakandi and Katlicherra featured live streaming of the Chief Minister’s central address from Boko in Kamrup district.
The programme at Rabindra Bhawan saw the presence of MLAs Zakir Hussain Laskar and Nizam Uddin Choudhury, District Council Chairperson Fatima Begum Choudhury, Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Jain, CEO of the District Council Ruthliengthang, BJP leader Moon Swarnakar, and Dr. Milon Das, among others.
The large-scale distribution has been widely welcomed as a significant step towards improving rural housing infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life for thousands of families across Hailakandi district.
