Due to a disagreement with the reservation review panel, five Nagaland tribes will not attend state events.

The Five-Tribes Committee on Review of Reservation Policy (CORRP) — representing the Angami, Ao, Lotha, Rengma, and Sema tribes — has announced it will withdraw from all Nagaland government events, including Independence Day celebrations, in protest against the inclusion of civil society organisations in the state’s reservation policy review commission. CORRP argues that only serving or retired officials should serve on the panel to ensure impartiality, rejecting government claims about job share figures for advanced tribes as “wildly imaginary.” The committee insists this is a “non-participation” stance, not a boycott, and warns it may push for suspension of the current policy if implementation of the panel’s findings is tied to the national census.

Three districts of Nagaland are left in darkness when a landslip topples a transmission tower.

Power supply to the Tuli Sub-Division, Longleng, and Mon districts in Nagaland was severely disrupted early on August 8, 2025, following the collapse of a 66 kV transmission tower in the Yisemyong area caused by massive landslides. Authorities located the fault by late afternoon and are working to restore power at the earliest. This incident underscores the increasing vulnerability of Nagaland’s hill districts to natural calamities during the monsoon season, affecting critical infrastructure and daily life. Residents have been urged to bear with the ongoing inconvenience as repair efforts continue.

The Meghalaya Transport Department mandates that unlawful vehicle modifications be reversed.

The Meghalaya Transport Department has launched a crackdown on unauthorized structural modifications to goods vehicles, such as illegally extended platforms, which violate manufacturer specifications and central motor vehicle regulations. Vehicle owners have been given a 60-day deadline to restore their vehicles to original dimensions or face legal action under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Officials warn that many modifications done without engineering oversight compromise vehicle stability and safety, especially on Meghalaya’s hilly terrain. The department urges all owners to seek prior approval for any modifications to ensure public safety and regulatory compliance.

Bishramganj, Tripura, is tense following a molestation accusation; prohibition orders have been issued.

Authorities in Tripura have enforced prohibitory orders in Bishramganj and adjoining areas of Sepahijala district following an incident where a tribal girl alleged molestation by a fellow bus passenger. The situation escalated when, after the girl informed her family, a group intercepted the bus, assaulted several passengers, and damaged multiple vehicles—resulting in at least six injuries. Both the alleged molestation and the retaliatory violence have drawn condemnation from Chief Minister Manik Saha, who urged calm and emphasized that the law will take its course. Police have registered two FIRs, one concerning the molestation and another regarding the mob attack, although no arrests have yet been made. Political and community leaders have called for restraint and peace, warning against communalizing or politicizing the incident. Security has been heightened as investigations continue.

To encourage tourism, the Tripura government plans to create six nature parks throughout the state.

With a view to boosting tourism, the Tripura government has planned to build six eco parks across the state.

Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma on Wednesday said that the eco parks would be developed in six districts, including Dhalai and South Tripura, with an estimated cost of Rs 10 crore for each park.

The new eco parks, which will be built on forest land and managed by the Joint Forest Management Group (JFMG), are expected to provide jobs and income for local communities through tourism.

“These tourist facilities, to be built on forest land, will provide a livelihood to the local people,” he said.

Debbarma said the department is focused on the creation of assets by utilising the outlay of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Notably, Chief Minister has been working on a mission to create world-class tourism-related infrastructure in the northeastern state.

Debbarma said, “The department plans to establish roadside market centres and forest producers’ outlets to provide decent facilities to the people who sell agricultural products on roadsides.”

The forest minister said the department would spend Rs 120 crore under JICA and Indo-German Development Project (IGDC), both externally-aided schemes, to set up roadside markets and forest producers’ centres.

According to the minister, 11 forest producers’ outlets will be established in 11 blocks of Dhalai district, with an allocation of Rs 50 lakh for each outlet.

“These facilities will be built for long-term use. These will help people, especially tribal communities, to sell their agricultural produce at fair prices,” he added.
