Meghalaya is positioned at the bottom among states in the most recent Performance Grading Index, according to a report.

Meghalaya has emerged as the lowest-performing state in the Ministry of Education’s latest Performance Grading Index (PGI) for 2023-24, scoring just 417.9 points and landing in the lowest band of the nationwide assessment. The PGI 2.0 report, which evaluates states and Union Territories across six key domains—including learning outcomes, infrastructure, and access—found that Chandigarh leads all regions with a score of 703, yet no state or UT reached the top four performance bands, highlighting a significant scope for improvement across India’s school education system. While 24 states and UTs improved their scores this year, others including Bihar, Jharkhand, and Karnataka saw declines, underscoring ongoing challenges in educational quality and equity.

LPG truck drivers in Manipur have launched protests and strikes after the assault of a driver by armed men suspected to be police commandos at the Sekmai gas bottling plant. The ongoing demonstrations have disrupted the supply of petroleum products, including LPG cylinders, petrol, and diesel, across the state. Drivers have parked around 150 tankers along NH 37, halting distribution and prompting panic buying among residents. The protestors are demanding immediate action against the attackers and have vowed to intensify their agitation until justice is served.

The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) Shillong Circle, together with the JSU Central Body, has requested the Meghalaya government to temporarily suspend internet services during government job exams to prevent cheating. The union highlighted the risk posed by mobile phones and AI tools, and proposed strict frisking, CCTV surveillance, and monitoring during interviews to ensure a fair and transparent recruitment system.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has declared a red alert for Assam and Meghalaya, forecasting extreme heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning over the next two days. The alert, effective Wednesday and Thursday, requires immediate action to safeguard public safety, with an orange alert for Friday to maintain preparedness. Isolated areas may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, increasing risks of waterlogging, traffic disruption, and localized landslides. Sepahijala acid attack injures a woman in Tripura. 

A 26-year-old woman was hospitalized after an acid attack in Sonamura NC Nagar, Sepahijala district, Tripura, on Sunday night. The assault occurred when the victim stepped out of her home to use the lavatory. Police suspect the attackers are from a neighboring village. The woman, who suffered burns on her hands and legs, is now in stable condition at GBP Hospital in Agartala. An FIR has been filed against three suspects, and the investigation is ongoing, with no arrests yet reported.

The government of Manipur is getting ready to receive the bodies of two people who died in an aviation crash in the state.

Nitin Gadkari said the centre has approved Rs 951 cr for the Tura Bypass project in Meghalaya.

The Central government has approved Rs 951.27 crore for the construction of a 29.03-kilometre Tura Bypass in Meghalaya, connecting NH-127B to NH-217. Announced by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, the two-lane bypass with paved shoulders will start near Sanchonggre village and end at Jenggitchakgre village, strategically diverting traffic away from the congested urban core of Tura town. This project aims to ease traffic flow, reduce travel time, and improve road safety by separating local and through traffic, while also strengthening connectivity between Guwahati and the India-Bangladesh border at Dalu.

Key allocations include support for service delivery projects, seed processing plants, pig breeding farms, agricultural market infrastructure, and educational facilities. The package also funds capacity-building workshops, cultural preservation efforts, and the installation of solar-powered irrigation pumps, reaffirming the NEC’s commitment to the holistic development of Tripura and the North Eastern region.

Tripura empowers distant learners by implementing smart classrooms in tribal dormitories.

The Tribal Welfare Department of Tripura has launched smart classes in 33 tribal hostels, a move set to transform education for thousands of students in remote areas. Officially inaugurated by Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, the initiative is part of the Dharti Aaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan, a campaign focused on inclusivity and digital access. Approximately 7,000 students will benefit from digital resources such as live interactive classes, recorded lectures, multilingual materials, online tests, and a robust Learning Management System. The program also includes motivational and mental health counseling, aiming to provide holistic support.
