Additionally, he addressed concerns over firearm smuggling while announcing plans to recruit 900 more police constables soon.”

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a four-day alert for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across Tripura until May 16. Khowai district recorded the highest rainfall at 96.4 mm, while Agartala’s Bodhjungnagar received 46.5 mm. Wind speeds may reach 50 km/h, with severe weather impacting multiple districts, including West Tripura and Khowai tomorrow. Residents are advised to take precautions and remain indoors during storms.

“The Chakeshang Student’s Union (CSU) of Nagaland has initiated an indefinite blockade on NH-29’s Chakhabama–Kikruma section, citing NHIDCL and its contractor’s prolonged failure to meet commitments. The CSU, frustrated by unfulfilled assurances despite months of engagement and protests, has halted movement of officials and government vehicles. The union has held NHIDCL responsible for any fallout, emphasizing that the blockade will remain until their demands are addressed.”

The center authorizes the final survey for Sikkim’s new railway line.

“The Ministry of Railways has approved a final location survey for a proposed railway line from Melli to Dentam via Jorethang and Legship, aiming to enhance connectivity in southern and western Sikkim. Conducted by Northeast Frontier Railway at an estimated cost of ₹2.25 crore, the survey will provide critical technical data for engineering and cost estimation. The planned 75-km route will link remote areas, including Dentam near the India-Nepal border, to the national railway network. Melli is set to become a key junction, integrating these regions into the broader transport system. Expected to boost tourism, trade, and employment—particularly in Gyalshing—the initiative marks a strategic extension of the under-construction Sivok-Rangpo railway line, slated for completion by 2027.”

Four people are being held in connection with a Rs 5.5 lakh mobile snatching case in Manipur.

Following intelligence inputs, Imphal West District Police arrested four individuals, including two teenagers, in connection with a mobile phone looting case worth Rs 5.5 lakh. The accused were caught in coordinated raids on Saturday, leading to the recovery of 11 stolen mobile phones, two four-wheelers, and a smartwatch.
The arrested individuals—Takhellambam Nongshaba Singh (20), Pritam Moirangthem (18), Maimom Adison (19), and Laishram Aku Singh (18)—were from Imphal West district. Pritam Moirangthem, being a juvenile, was placed under police care, while the others were handed over to the authorities. Investigations are ongoing.

All BSF officers’ and soldiers’ leaves were “cancelled” in the eastern and western sectors.

All leaves for BSF personnel on the western and eastern commands have been canceled since May 7 following India-Pakistan hostilities. Officers on leave have been ordered to return to their units immediately as the force reinforces border security.

Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla met with representatives of the Tangkhul Naga community to discuss tribal concerns in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts. The Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) delegation submitted a memorandum seeking increased tribal representation in the Manipur Legislative Assembly, bifurcation of the state budget for targeted development, and the construction of a new office complex in Ukhrul. Governor Bhalla assured the delegation that their concerns would be reviewed to support tribal welfare in the state.
