
Memorial Meeting Held for Late Journalists Palash Sen and Jyotirmoy Roy in Dharmanagar
Barak Outlet Report, Dharmanagar, January 29: A memorial meeting was held at the conference hall of Dharmanagar Municipal Council on Wednesday to honor the late journalists Jyotirmoy Roy and Palash Sen. The event was organized by the Dharmanagar Press Club and commenced at 12 PM with floral tributes and the lighting of ceremonial lamps before portraits of the deceased journalists. The inauguration was led by Dharmanagar MLA and Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, Biswabandhu Sen. Other distinguished attendees included Dharmanagar Municipal Chairperson Mitali Rani Das Sen, State Secretary of the Tripura Journalists Union and Editor of Headlines Tripura National, Pranab Sarkar, the wife of late journalist Palash Sen, Kakoli Sen, the son of late journalist Jyotirmoy Roy, Anik Prati Roy, and Vice President of Dharmanagar Press Club, Abdul Hannan, among others.
Following the tributes, a minute of silence was observed in remembrance of the deceased journalists. Notably, journalist Palash Sen had succumbed to kidney-related ailments on December 23 of the previous year at a private nursing home in Haridwar. He was 52 years old at the time of his passing. He had been a journalist for the Syandan newspaper and also served as the President of Dharmanagar Press Club. Meanwhile, journalist Jyotirmoy Roy passed away on January 20 of this year at Dharmanagar District Hospital after battling bronchial cancer for an extended period. He was 62 years old at the time of his demise. Roy had worked for 35 years as a journalist for the CPI(M) party’s mouthpiece, Daily Desher Katha, and was also known for his literary contributions in poetry, novels, and essays.
During the memorial meeting, Pranab Sarkar emphasized that the legacy of journalists never fades, as they live on through their writings. He expressed deep sorrow over the loss of these two eminent journalists, stating that their demise is an irreparable loss to the media fraternity of Dharmanagar and the entire state. He also urged the local administration to name a road or install a commemorative plaque in honor of the late journalists and made a formal request to MLA Biswabandhu Sen and Municipal Chairperson Mitali Rani Das Sen to consider this proposal.
In his address, MLA Biswabandhu Sen acknowledged that the departed journalists could not be brought back but assured that their families would not be left alone. He noted that while Jyotirmoy Roy’s family is financially stable, Palash Sen’s family faces economic challenges. He pledged his full support in assisting them. The memorial event concluded with the Dharmanagar Press Club presenting a tribute letter to the families of the deceased journalists as a token of respect and remembrance.
