
₹4.5 Crore Worth of Heroin and Opium Seized in Salchapra, Silchar; Two Arrested
Silchar, May 6: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Cachar Police seized a large consignment of narcotics worth approximately ₹4.5 crore during an operation conducted in the Salchapra area of Silchar on Tuesday.
According to police reports, the seizure included 847 grams of suspected heroin and 4.035 kilograms of opium. Two individuals, suspected to be drug peddlers, were taken into custody in connection with the incident.
The operation forms part of Assam’s ongoing war against drugs, which has seen intensified efforts under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Chief Minister commended Assam Police for their consistent vigilance and proactive approach in curbing the drug menace that threatens the youth and social fabric of the state.

Authorities confirmed that further investigations are underway, and efforts are being made to trace the larger network behind this operation.
