
7-Foot Burmese Python Rescued Near Satsang Ashram Road Durga Puja Mandap
Silchar, October 15, 2024: A 7-foot-long Burmese python, weighing approximately 15 kg, was successfully rescued from the Satsang Ashram Road area, opposite the Durga Puja Mandap, in Silchar. The python had entered the residence of former Forest Officer R. Bhattacharjee, creating panic as it moved through the lane. Locals quickly alerted the police and the Divisional Forest Office.


The rescue operation, conducted with the active support of local residents, was swift and effective. Those who contributed to the effort included Mihir Lal Goswami, Timon Biswas, Ranjan Dhar Purkayastha, Sourabh Dey, Subhash Dey, Amit Dey, Rahul Das, Bikash Roy, and Ritam Bhattacharjee etc. Their timely intervention helped authorities manage the situation efficiently.
Upon receiving the report, forest department staff—Nabankur Das (IT Executive), office staff member Sabir, and driver Emrul—along with local police officers, arrived at the location. After a coordinated effort, the team managed to safely capture the python and secure it in a bag.
Officials from the forest department confirmed that the Burmese python would undergo health checks before being released into the Borail forest range. The swift coordination between the authorities and local residents ensured the rescue operation was carried out successfully without incident.
Authorities have urged locals to remain vigilant and immediately report any future wildlife sightings to ensure the safety of both residents and the animals.
