Barak Nandini Sahitya Charcha Kendra to Celebrate 11th Annual ‘Krishnachura Utsav’ with Cultural Grandeur

Silchar, May 7 (BarakOutlet) — The Barak Nandini Sahitya Charcha Kendra is set to host the 11th edition of its annual literary and cultural celebration, Krishnachura Utsav, on May 11 at Shilpangan, Silchar. Widely recognized as a cornerstone of intellectual and artistic engagement in the Barak Valley, the event is expected to draw notable writers, poets, scholars, and performers from across the region.

The day-long celebration will begin at 10:30 AM and feature a blend of literary discussions, poetry readings, cultural performances, and panel sessions. Distinguished literary figure Professor Dilip Choudhury will inaugurate the event and deliver the keynote address. The inaugural session will also include reflections by prominent personalities such as Dr. Pijush Kanti Roy, Sahitya Akademi awardee Ismail Alam, and folk artist Debashree Chakraborty.

The festival aims to foster dialogue on literature’s evolving role in society, with a special session on literary identity in a globalized world. The event will also spotlight emerging voices through a poetry symposium and panel discussions featuring authors and educators from various parts of Assam.

In the latter half of the day, a cultural program will showcase a vibrant range of performances including Rabindra Sangeet, folk songs, dance dramas, and plays. Students from Assam University and local institutions are scheduled to present thematic productions highlighting the intersection of culture and community.

A special felicitation ceremony will honor Khagendra Debnath, a veteran contributor to the region’s literary and cultural heritage. Additionally, the event will see the release of a new literary journal edition published by the Kendra, alongside discussions on upcoming literary trends.

Organizers have described Krishnachura Utsav as an annual reaffirmation of the Barak Valley’s cultural identity and intellectual unity. Bijan Roy, a coordinator of the festival, stated that the blooming of the krishnachura tree each year serves as an apt metaphor for the creative blossoming that the Utsav encourages.

Open to the public, the event is expected to draw wide participation from across the districts of Cachar, Karimganj, and Hailakandi, reinforcing its standing as one of the premier literary and cultural gatherings in the Barak region.
