
Cachar Hosts First-Ever DISHA Meeting to Review Developmental Progress Across Key Schemes
Silchar, July 10: In a significant milestone for grassroots governance, Cachar district hosted its first District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting today, July 10, 2025, in Silchar, aimed at strengthening the implementation and monitoring of central and state-sponsored schemes in the region.
The meeting was chaired by Hon’ble Member of Parliament Sri Parimal Suklabaidya, with Hon’ble MP Sri Kanad Purkayastha serving as co-chairperson. A host of senior officials including Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, Shri Mridul Yadav, IAS, Members of the Legislative Assembly, and senior departmental officers were in attendance.
The session saw detailed reviews of several flagship schemes including Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), Jal Jeevan Mission, National Health Mission (NHM), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), and the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), among others.
Addressing the gathering, Sri Parimal Suklabaidya emphasized the critical importance of timely and quality execution of projects to ensure that developmental benefits reach the grassroots effectively. “The essence of DISHA lies in robust coordination, accountability, and people-first governance,” he said.
Sri Kanad Purkayastha reiterated the importance of efficient fund utilization and transparent monitoring mechanisms to overcome implementation bottlenecks, especially in rural infrastructure and basic service delivery.
The meeting concluded with directives for expediting works, removing inter-departmental delays, and adopting technology-enabled tracking systems to ensure measurable outcomes. Officials were also encouraged to prioritize last-mile delivery, ensuring inclusivity in project benefits across all sections of society.
The establishment of DISHA in Cachar is expected to enhance participative governance and provide a structured platform for regular review and corrective action, reflecting the government’s broader commitment to development with accountability.
