Major Collision on NH 6 Near Digorkhal: 15 Injured
Katigorah – A serious traffic accident occurred early Thursday morning on National Highway 6 in the Digorkhal area of Katigorah. The collision, which took place around 5 AM, involved a night bus operated by Arhan Travels traveling from Guwahati to Silchar and a speeding lorry heading towards Guwahati.
The accident happened in front of “Sharma Hotel” when the bus attempted to overtake a vehicle that was illegally parked. In the process, it collided head-on with the oncoming lorry, identified with the registration number AS 25 BC 4737. Both vehicles sustained substantial damage.
Among the injured were the drivers of both the bus and the lorry, along with 13 passengers from the bus. All injured individuals were initially treated at Kalain Government Hospital. Due to the severity of their injuries, the two drivers and four passengers were later transferred to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for further medical care.
A passenger with minor injuries recounted the harrowing experience, stating, “There were more than 25 passengers on the bus. I was almost asleep when the crash happened. The driver’s side was severely damaged, and he was badly hurt. Fortunately, locals helped rush all the injured to the hospital.”
This incident underscores the risks associated with high-speed driving and the hazards of improper parking on major highways. Authorities are investigating the circumstances leading to the collision and are expected to take necessary measures to prevent such accidents in the future.
