Major Infrastructure Boost for Silchar: Flyover, RCC Bridge & Road Expansion Plans Reviewed by DC

Silchar, July 9, 2025: In a high-level strategic meeting convened today, the Cachar district administration under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Mridul Yadav (IAS) discussed and reviewed three critical infrastructure development projects for Silchar. Aimed at improving traffic flow, reducing urban congestion, and accelerating regional connectivity, these projects are expected to bring a transformational change to the city’s long-overdue urban planning needs.

The meeting, held on July 9, 2025, placed primary focus on the following three key infrastructure proposals:

  1. Construction of a Flyover from Trunk Road (near Capital Point) to Rangirkhari, Silchar.
  2. Building a 1/1 RCC Bridge over the Barak River.
  3. Widening and expansion of the road from Birbal Bazar to Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH).

These projects are part of the administration’s long-term vision to decongest urban traffic routes, improve access to key institutions such as the SMCH, and facilitate smoother east-west movement across the Barak Valley’s urban center.

Who Was Present?

The meeting was attended by several top-ranking officials and department representatives including:

  • Dhrubajyoti Pathak (ACS) – Land Acquisition Officer and Sub-Divisional Commissioner of Lakhipur.
  • Arunjyoti Das (ACS) – Circle Officer, Silchar (Sadar).
  • Lakshyajit Gogoi (ACS) – Additional Deputy Commissioner, Cachar.
  • Officials from PWD (Roads, NH, Buildings), APDCL, AMRUT, Eastern India Gas Limited, and the Public Health Engineering Department, among others.

Deputy Commissioner Mridul Yadav emphasized a time-bound implementation strategy, inter-departmental coordination, and community-inclusive planning to ensure efficient execution without disrupting essential public services.

Local urban planning experts have hailed this meeting as a crucial step toward sustainable development, noting that such long-pending infrastructural bottlenecks, if resolved, could significantly upgrade Silchar’s civic ecosystem.
