Massive 10-Foot King Cobra Safely Rescued from Home in Hawaithang, Cachar

BarakOutlet Desk, April 7, 2025, Silchar: A dramatic wildlife rescue unfolded in Hawaithang, Cachar, on Monday afternoon when a massive 10-foot-long King Cobra was discovered inside a residential property. The incident, which occurred around 1 PM, prompted a swift response from the Barak Valley Wildlife Division.

Upon receiving the alert, a skilled rescue team—Trikal Chakraborty, Sabir Ahmed Laskar, and Manash Jyoti Pegu—rushed to the site. With a large crowd gathering quickly, the team moved fast to cordon off the area to ensure public safety before initiating the rescue.

Our first priority was public safety, followed by ensuring the snake wasn’t harmed. It was a coordinated effort, and thankfully, everything went smoothly,” shared Trikal Chakraborty, a member of the rescue team.

The King Cobra, a protected species under India’s Wildlife Protection Act, was safely extracted using standard containment tools. It was later released into a secure, forested habitat away from human settlements.

The incident serves as a vital reminder of the increasing interaction between wildlife and human zones due to habitat loss and seasonal movement—highlighting the importance of awareness and preparedness in such scenarios.
