Barakoutlet Correspondent, Hailakandi: A dramatic turn of events unfolded in Hailakandi’s Algapur on Thursday night when a special team from West Bengal Police faced a violent attack while attempting to arrest an accused in a large-scale financial fraud case. Two police personnel sustained serious injuries in the assault.

According to reports, the West Bengal Police team, consisting of five officers, arrived in Hailakandi to apprehend Sharif Uddin Choudhury, the working president of AGP’s Hailakandi district unit, and his son Masum Choudhury. The duo was accused in a fraud case involving ₹80 lakh. However, as the police attempted to take action near Algapur police station, they encountered fierce resistance.

Eyewitnesses claim that Masum Choudhury, accompanied by a group of miscreants, launched a brutal attack on the police team using sticks, bricks, and sharp weapons. The sudden escalation left two officers seriously wounded. Despite the resistance, West Bengal Police successfully managed to arrest Masum Choudhury. Following the attack, the injured officers were admitted to SK Roy Civil Hospital in Hailakandi for treatment.

On Saturday morning, Masum Choudhury was transported to Chandannagar, West Bengal, where further legal proceedings will take place.

Meanwhile, the prime accused, Sharif Uddin Choudhury, remains absconding. Locals revealed that Masum Choudhury was often seen driving expensive cars, flaunting a luxurious lifestyle on Instagram through reels and videos. Hailakandi Police have intensified search operations to locate and arrest him. Officials have assured that he will be apprehended soon.
