South Salmara-Mankachar, July 11: Assam Cabinet Minister Krishnendu Paul, currently overseeing the portfolios of Public Works (Rural Roads – PMGSY), Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, and Fishery, chaired a district-level review meeting on Thursday at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, South Salmara-Mankachar.

The agenda of the meeting focused on evaluating ongoing departmental activities and identifying administrative or logistical bottlenecks in the execution of rural development projects across the district.

Key officials present included:
Rahul Kumar Gupt, IAS, Deputy Commissioner
Rituraj Bora, IAS, Secretary, Soil Conservation Department
Haren Tokbi, APS, Superintendent of Police
Jayanta Bora, ACS, CEO, Zila Parishad
• Departmental representatives from Veterinary, Fishery, and PWRD (PMGSY)

Additionally, M. S. Manivannan, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary of the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department, joined the session virtually.

The meeting covered a range of district-specific concerns such as:
– Delays in rural road construction under PMGSY
– Limited access to veterinary services in remote areas
– Need for structured support to promote aquaculture and sustainable fisheries
– Weak inter-departmental coordination impacting service delivery

Officials were asked to furnish updates on current progress and project backlogs. While some developments have moved forward, concerns were raised about slow implementation in hilly and flood-prone zones of the district.

No formal resolutions were adopted, but Minister Paul directed departments to submit follow-up reports and explore options for expediting stalled works.

The review is part of a broader initiative to monitor on-ground realities more closely and align local efforts with the wider development targets under the Assam Government’s state-level planning framework.

BarakOutlet will continue monitoring implementation progress in the district and follow up on departmental responses to issues raised during the meeting.
