Prohibitory Order Issued in Cachar for Peaceful Nomination Process Ahead of Panchayat Election 2025
Silchar, April 5, 2025: To ensure the peaceful and smooth conduct of the nomination process for the upcoming Panchayat Election 2025, the District Magistrate of Cachar, Mridul Yadav, IAS, has issued a prohibitory order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.
This order, effective from April 5, 2025, will remain in force until the nomination process concludes. It prohibits any unlawful assembly, rallies, or carrying of weapons near the designated nomination centres within Cachar District. The move follows concerns about potential public disturbances and breaches of peace during the filing of nominations which began on April 3, 2025.

Key restrictions include:
- No assembly of five or more persons near nomination centres without official permission.
- No public rallies or events within 100 meters of nomination centres.
- Strict ban on carrying weapons, sticks, or offensive objects in and around the centres.
Violation of the order will invoke punitive action under Section 223 of the BNSS, 2023 and existing legal provisions.
The district administration urges all citizens to cooperate with authorities and ensure the democratic process remains undisturbed.
