YABA Tablets Worth ₹9 Crore Seized in Silchar, One Apprehended

Silchar, 30th Jan 2025: In a significant operation against drug trafficking, the Cachar Police successfully intercepted an auto-rickshaw and seized a massive consignment of YABA tablets worth approximately ₹9 crore. The operation was carried out at the Silchar-Aizawl Bypass based on specific intelligence inputs.

According to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who lauded the efforts of the police force, a total of 30,000 YABA tablets were recovered from the vehicle, which was transporting the illicit consignment from a neighboring state. One person has been taken into custody in connection with the case. The identity of the accused has not been disclosed yet as further investigation is underway.

The Assam Police have been actively engaged in the state’s ongoing campaign against drug trafficking under the initiative #AssamAgainstDrugs. CM Sarma reaffirmed the government’s commitment to intensifying its crackdown on narcotics and maintaining Assam’s zero-tolerance policy against drug-related crimes.

A senior police official from Cachar district informed that the seized YABA tablets were likely being transported to other parts of Assam and possibly beyond the state. The operation was conducted following days of surveillance and tracking suspicious movements in the border regions. The official also mentioned that the suspect apprehended in the case is being interrogated to uncover possible links to larger drug cartels operating across state borders.

The use of YABA, often referred to as the “madness drug,” has seen a surge in northeastern states, with Assam being a critical transit route for drug syndicates. The tablets, which contain methamphetamine and caffeine, are highly addictive and have serious health repercussions.

This latest bust is part of the Assam government’s intensified efforts to curb the drug menace. Over the past few months, multiple similar operations have been carried out, leading to large-scale seizures of narcotics, arrests of traffickers, and dismantling of smuggling networks. The Assam Police, in coordination with other law enforcement agencies, continue to strengthen intelligence gathering and enforcement mechanisms to tackle drug-related crimes effectively.

Citizens have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking to authorities. The state government remains resolute in its fight against narcotics, ensuring a safer future for the youth and communities affected by drug abuse. Further details regarding the ongoing investigation are awaited as law enforcement officials work towards exposing the broader network behind this illegal trade.
