Saurashtra East-West Corridor to be Completed by June 2027
BarakOutlet News Desk: The Silchar-Saurashtra East-West Corridor, a key national infrastructure project spanning 3,576.55 km, is nearing completion, with 3,480.62 km already constructed. The remaining 95.93 km is currently under implementation or bidding.
However, delays in West Bengal and Assam have stalled progress due to challenges such as land acquisition issues, environmental and forest clearance delays, financial setbacks for contractors, and unforeseen disruptions.
To accelerate completion, the government has introduced measures like streamlining land acquisition, enhancing the Parivesh Portal for faster environmental clearances, enabling online approvals for Road Over Bridges (ROB) and Road Under Bridges (RUB) from the Railways, and holding frequent review meetings with key stakeholders, including state governments.

The revised deadline for completion is now June 2027. This corridor is a crucial connectivity lifeline for India’s North Eastern states and plays a strategic role in linking the region to international borders with Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Nepal. Additionally, it is expected to significantly boost regional economic growth.
Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, shared this update in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, reaffirming efforts to ensure timely completion.
