Eight legislators were sworn into the Meghalaya Cabinet on Monday at Raj Bhavan, Shillong, in a reshuffle aimed at ensuring wider regional balance. The new ministers include Timothy D. Shira, Metbah Lyngdoh, Sanbor Shullai, Lahkmen Rymbui, Brening A. Sangma, Sosthenes Sohtun, Wailadmiki Shylla, and Methodius Dkhar, with portfolios to be announced soon. Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma described the move as a mid-term reset carried out after consultations to ensure inclusivity, particularly for regions like Ri-Bhoi and West Garo Hills.

The Buyer–Seller Meet generated promising leads in agriculture, food processing, handicrafts, and textiles, reinforcing the Northeast’s role in regional trade integration.

Assam CM: Nupur Borah, an arrested ACS officer, accumulated 400 times more wealth than income.

Assam Civil Service officer Nupur Borah has been arrested after the Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell discovered assets nearly 400 times more than her legal income. Searches at her residences in Guwahati and Barpeta led to the recovery of over Rs 92.50 lakh in cash, jewellery worth nearly Rs 1.5 crore, and three Guwahati flats. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said mere dismissal would not suffice, stressing the need for stringent penal action. Borah had been under surveillance for six months following an illegal land transfer case in Barpeta. The CM assured that the probe would continue transparently and urged citizens to report any instances of bribery.

The CM’s vigilance team raided the home of ACS officer Nupur Bora and confiscated Rs 1.70 crore in cash.

The Chief Minister’s Vigilance and Anti-Corruption team launched a major raid on September 15 at the Gotanagar residence of ACS officer and Revenue Circle Officer Nupur Bora, in connection with a disproportionate assets case. During extensive searches, officials recovered approximately ₹1.70 crore in cash from Bora’s apartment, along with various property documents. Bora, who has served just six years in government, was arrested, and further raids are being planned at the residence of an associate as the investigation continues

Following hostel rioting, NIT Silchar suspends five Bangladeshi students and issues a deportation order in Assam.

Five Bangladeshi students at NIT Silchar have been suspended and face deportation for their involvement in a violent clash on campus, officials confirmed on September 15. The students, enrolled under ICCR scholarships, were allegedly found in possession of narcotics during hostel searches. The September 8 incident left several students injured, with two still in ICU. Authorities said the action includes a one-year suspension, expulsion from the hostel, and deportation, with ICCR endorsing the decision.

The tenth Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court, Justice M Sundar, was sworn in.

Justice M. Sundar was sworn in as the tenth Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court on Monday at a ceremony in Imphal’s Raj Bhavan, with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla administering the oath. A former judge of the Madras High Court, Justice Sundar succeeds Justice Kempaiah Somashekar, who retired recently. A Chennai native and graduate of Madras Law College, he has served as a standing counsel for the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board and has been a permanent judge of the Madras High Court since 2016.

Tripura will host Airtel’s first data facility in eastern India: CM

Tripura is set to host eastern India’s first Airtel data centre, Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Engineers’ Day, calling it a milestone for the state’s growing IT ecosystem. He highlighted that Tripura is the only state to have fully implemented the e-office system across all levels of governance and noted that ₹7,000 crore has been earmarked in this year’s budget for infrastructure development. Linking these initiatives to the national goal of Viksit Bharat 2047, Saha urged engineers to focus on accuracy, innovation, and the use of AI tools, while also emphasizing the state’s ongoing construction drive, including the expansion of six national highways with more projects ahead.
