Amit Shah Orders Free Movement on Manipur Roads from March 8.
New Delhi, March 1 – Union Home Minister Amit Shah has ordered authorities to ensure free movement on all roads in Manipur from March 8, warning of strict action against obstructions.
Chairing a high-level security meeting, Shah reiterated the Centre’s commitment to restoring peace in Manipur and instructed swift completion of border fencing. He also called for a crackdown on the drug trade.
The meeting followed Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla’s ultimatum for surrendering illegal weapons, with over 300 arms turned in so far. The deadline has now been extended until March 6, 4 PM.
Manipur has faced unrest since May 2023 due to ethnic clashes between the Meitei and Kuki communities.
