ASSAM RIFLES & DRI SEIZE HEROIN WORTH ₹22.73 CRORE IN KABUGANJ, CACHAR

Silchar, 10 June : In a significant blow to the illegal drug trade infiltrating the Northeast, Assam Rifles, in close coordination with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), successfully intercepted a major narcotics consignment in the general area of Kabuganj, under Cachar district of Assam. The meticulously executed operation, based on actionable intelligence, culminated in the recovery of heroin valued at a staggering ₹22.73 crore in the international market.

The joint operation unfolded in the early hours of Tuesday, 10th June, following a credible tip-off regarding the movement of a suspicious vehicle. A high-speed chase ensued, culminating in the interception of a Tata Yodha pick-up truck. Upon inspection, the security forces discovered a consignment of 280 soap cases containing heroin, collectively weighing 3.24 kilograms.

This latest seizure underscores the growing challenges posed by trans-border narcotic networks exploiting the sensitive geographical corridors of Assam, especially at a time when neighbouring Manipur continues to grapple with sustained civil unrest and insurgent activity. The situation has rendered the entire region vulnerable to drug trafficking and other forms of narco-terrorism.
