Assam Rifles Reaffirms Commitment to a Drug-Free Society with Oath-Taking Ceremony Across Three Districts

Jiribam, June 26, 2025 : In a resolute step toward a drug-free future, Assam Rifles—India’s oldest paramilitary force—organized a solemn anti-drug oath-taking ceremony on 26th June 2025, observed globally as the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The ceremony was held simultaneously across Jiribam, Perzwal, and Tamenglong districts of the Northeast, regions often vulnerable to cross-border trafficking and drug-related challenges.

Senior officers, jawans, local youth, and members of civil society participated in large numbers, pledging to stand united against the menace of drugs. The initiative not only underscored the Assam Rifles’ security mandate but also their expanding social engagement in safeguarding the health and future of the local population.

A Multifaceted Campaign Against Narcotics

With growing concerns over drug abuse among youth and the infiltration of narcotics through porous borders, Assam Rifles has emerged as a vigilant force, actively involved in counter-narcotics operations. Their track record includes several successful busts of trafficking modules, seizure of contraband substances, and arrest of key operatives involved in the illicit trade.

The oath-taking event is part of a broader campaign aimed at raising awareness, especially among the youth. Through regular interactions with educational institutions, public awareness drives, and community outreach programmes, Assam Rifles continues to drive home the urgent message of the destructive impact of substance abuse.

Promoting Awareness, Ensuring Security

Speaking at the event, a senior official of Assam Rifles stated, “We are committed not only to defending the borders but also to defending the health and values of our society. The drug menace is not just a legal issue—it’s a social and moral one. It needs everyone’s involvement.”

In regions like Tamenglong and Perzwal, where insurgency and socio-economic challenges make youth more vulnerable, Assam Rifles’ proactive engagement is being viewed by locals as a beacon of hope. Community leaders and residents have welcomed these efforts, emphasizing the importance of joint action between security forces and civilians.

Vision for a Drug-Free Future

By fostering a culture of accountability and civic responsibility, Assam Rifles is working to strengthen community resilience. The force believes that education, awareness, and swift enforcement form the triad necessary to dismantle the drug ecosystem.

As the oath echoed across the three districts, it carried more than symbolic weight—it signified a continuing promise: that Assam Rifles will remain steadfast in its mission to eradicate the drug threat and protect the region’s future generations.
