Assam Rifles Seize Country-Made Liquor Worth ₹15 Lakh in Manipur’s Jiribam District

Jiribam, July 10: In a decisive move against the thriving illicit liquor trade in the border areas of Manipur, the Assam Rifles on July 9 conducted a successful operation in Leinangpokpi, Jiribam District, leading to the seizure of 1,800 cases of country-made liquor, estimated to be worth ₹15 lakh in the illegal market.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, troops of the Assam Rifles launched a targeted operation that not only resulted in the confiscation of the large consignment but also led to the apprehension of two individuals allegedly involved in the unlawful trade.

Officials stated that the seized consignment was being stored for large-scale distribution across the region, posing a significant threat to public health and law enforcement protocols. The apprehended individuals have been handed over to the local police for further investigation.

A senior official from Assam Rifles emphasized, “This operation reaffirms our unwavering commitment to dismantling illegal networks that endanger the social fabric and economic well-being of the region. We will continue to extend our full support to civil authorities in maintaining law and order.”

The action underscores the continued vigilance and proactive role of Assam Rifles in securing the region not only from insurgency but also from socio-economic threats like the distribution of illicit substances. The drive against illegal liquor aligns with broader efforts to uphold public health standards and combat organized crime in Manipur’s vulnerable border districts.

This successful operation has been widely appreciated by local residents and civil society groups, who see it as a crucial step toward curbing the circulation of harmful, unregulated substances in the community.
