Assam Rifles seizes heroin worth ₹5.85 crore in Cachar district

Silchar, November 5:
In a significant breakthrough against the illegal narcotics trade, the Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), seized heroin worth approximately ₹5.85 crore in Cachar district, Assam, on November 4, 2025.

Acting on precise intelligence regarding the movement of illicit drugs through the region, a team of Assam Rifles launched a swift and well-coordinated operation near Sonabarighat. During the operation, security forces intercepted a vehicle suspected of transporting narcotics. Upon thorough inspection, a substantial quantity of heroin was recovered from the vehicle.

Two individuals, both residents of Chandel District, were apprehended in connection with the seizure. The authorities also confiscated the vehicle used for smuggling, along with two mobile phones belonging to the suspects.

The successful operation marks yet another resolute effort by the Assam Rifles to combat the growing menace of drug trafficking in the Northeast. Over the years, the force has been working in close coordination with multiple law enforcement agencies to dismantle narcotics networks and prevent cross-border smuggling.

Reaffirming its commitment to the cause, the Assam Rifles stated that it remains dedicated to protecting the youth from the devastating consequences of drug abuse and ensuring peace and stability across the region.
