Awareness Programme on Distance Learning Held at Govt. Model College Borkhola!

Sani Roy, Borkhola 28th August : The KKHSOU Study Centre, Govt. Model College Borkhola, and the Central Library, Govt. Model College Borkhola, in collaboration with the KKHSOU Regional Centre, Silchar, organized an Awareness Programme on Distance Learning with Special Reference to KKHSOU on Tuesday at the college’s Smart Classroom. The programme highlighted the scope, opportunities, and benefits of distance education in today’s academic landscape, with a special focus on the initiatives of Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU).

The programme was convened by Dr. Rajesh Chutia, Coordinator, KKHSOU Study Centre, Govt. Model College Borkhola, who also delivered the Welcome Address, stressing the importance of distance education in democratizing higher studies and creating opportunities for learners from diverse backgrounds.

The event was graced by distinguished dignitaries on the dais: Dr. Baharul Alom Laskar, Academic Coordinator, Govt. Model College Borkhola; Dr. Rajesh Chutia, Coordinator, KKHSOU Study Centre, Govt. Model College Borkhola; Mr. Amar Ghosh, Regional Director, Silchar Regional Centre, KKHSOU; and Mr. Pankaj Kanti Malakar, Assistant Professor of Bengali, KKHSOU.

The session began with the felicitation of dignitaries, followed by speeches from Dr. Baharul Alom Laskar, Academic Coordinator, Govt. Model College Borkhola; Dr. Mofidur Rahman, IQAC Coordinator; and Dr. Madhumita Ghosh, Head of the Department of Bengali, who all emphasized the academic and social relevance of distance learning.

Mr. Amar Ghosh, Regional Director, KKHSOU, elaborated on the university’s mission and its outreach across Assam, while Mr. Pankaj Kanti Malakar shared insights on the contribution of Bengali studies in distance education. The programme concluded with reflections on the role of distance education in enhancing access to higher learning. Ms. Punam Nath, Office Assistant, KKHSOU & Guest Faculty, IDC – Library and Information Science, offered the Vote of Thanks.

The event was also attended by several eminent civil society members, including Sebok Paul (Social Worker), Avijit Choudhary (Social Worker), Sujan Goswami (Businessman), Arindom Nath (Journalist & Guardian of a Student), Ajit Ray Choudhary (Secretary, Deshbondu Club Bihara), Pinak Das (Retired Police Officer), Rajorshi Sharma (Journalist), Joynal Abdin Barbhuiya (Managing Director, Spring Dales Academy, Bhangarpar), and Rabindra Acharjee (Managing Director, Deshabandhu Club School).

These eminent civil society members were also felicitated during the programme in recognition of their contributions to the community. Their active participation, along with that of community leaders, journalists, educationists, and social workers, added great significance to the event, making it a meaningful interface between academia and society.
