Bangladeshi Woman Caught Entering India Illegally for Marriage, Indian Husband and Two Agents Arrested
By BarakOutlet Correspondent | Dholai, Assam: In a startling case of cross-border human trafficking linked to online relationships, a Bangladeshi woman who illegally entered India to marry an Indian youth she met on Facebook was arrested in Dholai, Assam. Acting swiftly, the Assam Police also apprehended her Indian husband and two agents who allegedly facilitated her illegal entry.
According to police sources, the woman hails from the Moulvibazar district of Bangladesh and had developed a romantic relationship with an Indian youth from Dholai through Facebook. They planned to marry and settle in India, bypassing legal immigration procedures.
The accused woman, identified as Taslima Khatun (20), reportedly crossed the Indo-Bangladesh border illegally with the help of agents. The Indian youth, Rinku Das (26), son of Babul Das, arranged for her travel and stay. Two local agents—Rabi Das (45) and Tapan Das (51)—are accused of providing logistical and illegal support in smuggling the woman into India via the Tripura-Assam border.
Authorities received a tip-off about the presence of a suspicious foreign national in the Bashkandi area under Dholai Police Station. A joint operation was carried out, leading to the arrest of the woman and three others. Initial investigations revealed that the woman had been staying in the house of her Indian partner, posing as a relative, in an attempt to avoid detection.
Local police confirmed that the arrested individuals will be charged under relevant sections of the Foreigners Act and Indian Penal Code. The woman will be handed over to the Foreigners’ Tribunal for further legal proceedings. The two agents will face charges for aiding illegal infiltration, which is a serious national security concern.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about the misuse of social media platforms for trafficking and cross-border crimes. Authorities have urged citizens to be vigilant and report suspicious activities to maintain border integrity and community safety.
As the investigation continues, police have hinted that more arrests may follow if deeper links to a trafficking racket are uncovered.
