
In Cuttack, the Kamakhya Express Train bound for Guwahati derails close to Nergundi Station.
In an unfortunate turn of event, as many as 11 coaches of the Kamakhya Express derailed today near Nergundi Station in the Cuttack-Nergundi Railway Section of Khurda Road Division of East Coast Railway.
The SMVT Bengaluru-Kamakhya AC Super Fast Express was travelling from Bengaluru to Guwahati when the tragic rail accident took place near the passenger halt of Manguli in the Choudwar area in Odisha’s Cuttack district at 11:54 am, officials said.
Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of the East Coast Railway Ashok Kumar Mishra said that no injuries or casualties have been reported, assuring that all passengers are safe.
He informed that resources have been mobilized to manage the situation and NDRF and fire services have been alerted, adding that emergency response teams, including an accident relief train and medical equipment, were promptly dispatched to the site.
The railway official further stated that frontline officers and support staff have reached the spot. Senior railway officials, including DRM Khurda Road and GM/ECoR, have also rushed to the spot.
Following the aftermath of the incident, railways have also operationalised helpline numbers 8455885999 and 8991124238. Necessary arrangements were being made to send the stranded passengers to their destinations.
The CPRO has further informed that the diversion of affected trains will be prioritized and restoration work will begin shortly. The cause of the derailment will be determined after an inquiry.
