Major Train Disruptions on JGLP–NHLG Section Following Landslide: Several Trains Cancelled or Short-Terminated

Silchar, June 25, 2025 : In a significant development impacting train movement across the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) zone, multiple trains have either been cancelled or short-terminated due to a landslide on the Jiribam–New Haflong (JGLP–NHLG) rail section. The official bulletin, issued late at night on June 24 by the General Manager (Operations) of N.F. Railway, confirms that at 16:40 hours on June 23, 2025, a portion of the railway track at Kilometre 108/7–8 was blocked due to the collapse of muck and boulders onto the track. The affected area lies between the JGLP and NHLG stations, a region known for its vulnerability during the monsoon season.

As a result of the obstruction, the N.F. Railway has taken the step of suspending operations on this route, with a cascading effect on several train services. A total of 17 trains have been fully cancelled between June 23 and June 27, 2025. These include key services such as the 15615 Guwahati–Silchar Express, 15611 New Silchar–Express, 15618 Dullabcherra–Guwahati Express, 13174 Sealdah–Silchar Express, and the 12503 Humsafar Express from SMBV to Agartala. Several intercity and tourist services have also been affected, including the 15887 and 15888 Guwahati–Badarpur Tourist Express, along with the NDLS–Guwahati Express and other passenger-oriented trains.

In addition to outright cancellations, several trains have been partially cancelled or short-terminated due to safety concerns on the affected stretch. The 05638 Silchar–Naharlagun Express, originally scheduled for June 23, has been short-terminated at New Haflong, while the 12513 Chennai–Silchar Express (June 21) has been cut short at Lumding. The 12501 Kolkata–Agartala Express will now terminate at Guwahati and will not proceed further towards Agartala, while the 20501 Agartala–Anand Vihar Express has been halted at Badarpur and will not traverse the BPB–ANVT section.

Moreover, services like the 12516 Silchar–Coimbatore Express, initially scheduled for June 24, will now be short-terminated at Guwahati. The cancelled section between Silchar and Guwahati has led to the train being rescheduled to depart from Guwahati at 10:45 AM on June 25. Similar arrangements have been made for other trains like the 14620 Firozpur–Agartala Express and 07030 CHZ–Agartala, both of which will operate only up to Lumding or Guwahati and remain cancelled on the remaining stretch.

Railway authorities have stated that these precautionary measures have been taken to avoid any untoward incidents as muck and boulders continue to pose a serious threat to the safety of the tracks and passengers. Restoration work is already underway at the affected site, and operations on this route will resume only after clearance and safety certification by the engineering teams.

Passengers scheduled to travel on these routes are advised to check the National Train Enquiry System (NTES), dial 139 for live train status, or visit the Indian Railways portal to confirm the operational status of their train. Refunds for cancelled trains and adjustments for short-terminated services are being facilitated at originating stations.

The railway department has urged travellers to cooperate during this period of disruption and prioritize safety over travel urgency. Normal train operations on the JGLP–NHLG section are expected to resume only after full track clearance, with updates anticipated post 7:00 PM on June 25, 2025.
