MANIPUR JOINT OPERATION: ASSAM RIFLES & MANIPUR POLICE STRIKE AGAINST NSCN (NIKI) CADRES IN JIRIBAM
Jiribam | June 19, 2025 : In a decisive counter-insurgency action, the Assam Rifles, in coordination with Manipur Police, executed a successful joint operation against cadres of the NSCN (Niki) faction. The mission, codenamed Operation Talash, marks a significant blow to the growing wave of extortion and kidnapping incidents plaguing the region, particularly along the critical corridor of National Highway 37 (NH-37).
According to highly placed sources, the operation was initiated following the abduction of a civilian driver, which raised red flags across security agencies operating in the sensitive border district of Jiribam. Armed with precise intelligence inputs and aided by advanced tracking technology, the forces launched a coordinated crackdown in the Hilghat area.
During the encounter, a team of security personnel confronted four suspects allegedly linked to the proscribed insurgent group. In a dramatic sequence reminiscent of a cinematic chase, the suspects attempted to flee by jumping into the Jiri River. However, one cadre—identified as a key operative of NSCN (Niki)—was swiftly apprehended. The remaining three escaped using concealed village tracks, reportedly blending among the local population.
A senior official from the security apparatus confirmed the arrest and reiterated the commitment of both forces. “We have been tracking the movement of these individuals since the abduction incident. No one involved will be spared,” the official stated on condition of anonymity, emphasizing the zero-tolerance policy towards insurgent activities.
The operation not only reinforces the operational synergy between Assam Rifles and Manipur Police, but also sends a strong message against disruptive elements operating in the region. Locals have welcomed the action, expressing hope for restored peace and safer road transit along NH-37.
Security experts view this as a strategic win in counter-insurgency efforts and a reaffirmation of the state’s resolve to eliminate terror and extortion networks from Manipur’s frontier zones.
