Meghalaya: NPP criticises Jharkhand’s imprisonment of minors, charity workers, and a Catholic nun.

B O News Desk : The National People’s Party (NPP) in Meghalaya on Monday strongly criticized the detention of a Catholic nun, two staff members from Catholic Charities Jamshedpur, and 19 minors at Tatanagar railway station in Jharkhand.

Authorities reportedly held the group on Sunday based on allegations of human trafficking and forced religious conversion.

According to the NPP, personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) detained the individuals without substantial evidence.

The accusations, later deemed baseless, led to their confinement until 3 am, which the party condemned as a clear act of intimidation against religious minorities.

Father Birendra Tete, who heads Catholic Charities Jamshedpur, explained that the minors had been traveling to participate in a two-day workshop focused on adolescent health and skill development.

Calling the incident a violation of fundamental rights, the NPP demanded that authorities respect constitutional protections that guarantee freedom of religion.

The party emphasized that no community should face persecution for engaging in lawful, charitable activities.

Reaffirming its commitment to the rights of all religious minorities, the NPP warned that such actions threaten the secular foundations of the Indian Constitution.
