Silchar, April 29: In a significant breakthrough, Manipur Police on Monday apprehended a militant belonging to the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA) from Jiribam Bazaar in Jiribam district, which shares its border with Assam’s Cachar district.

According to official sources, the arrested individual was allegedly involved in extortion activities, targeting local businesses and residents in the area. Acting on specific intelligence, security personnel swiftly launched an operation in the busy Jiribam market area, leading to his capture without any reported resistance.

Authorities are continuing investigations to trace the militant’s network and gather more information regarding the extent of extortion operations. Security has also been tightened along the Assam-Manipur border following the arrest to prevent any retaliatory incidents.
