Dilu Dhar Memorial Open International FIDE Rating Chess Tournament: Shovayan Kundu Emerges Champion

BarakOutlet Report, Silchar, January 29: West Bengal’s Shovayan Kundu has been crowned champion at the Dilu Dhar Memorial Open International FIDE Rating Chess Tournament held in Silchar. Maharashtra’s Kulkarni Vikramaditya secured the first runner-up position, while Silchar’s Abhrajit Nath claimed the second runner-up spot. The tournament was organized by Siddhanandaji Education Trust, in association with Marwari Yuva Manch Titans, and took place at the banquet hall of Barak View Residency Hotel on Sadarghat Road. The competition commenced on January 24, with a total participation of 250 players.

The prize distribution ceremony was conducted at the tournament’s conclusion, where winners received cash prizes, medals, and certificates. The rewards were as follows:

  • Champion: Shovayan Kundu – ₹1,11,000 cash prize, medal, and certificate.
  • First Runner-up: Kulkarni Vikramaditya – ₹71,000 cash prize, medal, and certificate.
  • Second Runner-up: Abhrajit Nath – ₹50,000 cash prize, medal, and certificate.
  • Fourth Place: Cirlilab Aliar from Turkey – ₹25,000 cash prize, medal, and certificate.
  • Additionally, 26 other winners were awarded cash prizes, medals, and certificates.

The closing ceremony was graced by District Commissioner Mridul Yadav as the chief guest, with Additional District Commissioner Dhrubajyoti Hazarika as the special guest. Other notable attendees included Tournament Committee Vice Chairman Moolchand Vaid, All Assam Chess Association Secretary Rajiv Dhar, Tournament Committee Vice President Bibhas Deb, Marwari Yuva Manch President Amit Bardiya, Tournament Director Bibendu Das, and Rupak Pal. The event was conducted by secretary Papia Dhar.

The tournament was highly successful, and the organizers have announced plans to hold the international chess competition on an even larger scale next year, inviting more participants to take part.
