A Large Blaze of fire Consumes an Electronics Store in Jorhat.

A devastating fire swept through an electronics showroom in the Old Balibat area of Jorhat town early Sunday morning, reducing high-end electronic goods to ashes and causing losses of around Rs. 50 lakh.

Police said the blaze occurred around 8.40 am at the LG showroom, which was closed for business on Sunday. The showroom in a multi-storey building housed a family on the upper floor, who were safely evacuated.

Pravin Kankani, the owner, estimated the losses to be around Rs 50 lakh. He said that the showroom contained high-value electronic items, including LED TVs, air conditioners, refrigerators, and other appliances, all destroyed.

“The Police Control Room (PCR) received a call at 8.40 am about the fire, and four fire tenders were immediately pressed into service. They managed to douse the fire and prevent it from spreading to adjacent shops in the complex. Firefighters successfully evacuated a family residing on the top floor of the building,” said Jorhat SP Shwetank Mishra, who rushed to the site to oversee operations.

Preliminary investigation suggests that a short circuit may have triggered the fire, though a detailed probe is underway. “We are currently assessing the total damage. Once our investigation is complete, we will have a clearer picture of exactly what triggered the fire,” SP Mishra added.
