Aminul Islam Arrested Over Controversial Remarks on Pulwama and Pahalgam: Accused of Spreading Anti-National Sentiments

BarakOutlet | April 24, Silchar: In a significant development, AIUDF legislator and All Assam Minorities Students’ Union (AAMSU) leader Aminul Islam has been arrested by Assam police for allegedly making controversial and inflammatory remarks relating to sensitive national security matters, including the Pulwama and Pahalgam incidents.

Aminul Islam reportedly made social media statements questioning the Pulwama terror attack and other national security narratives, including insinuations on the Pahalgam incident. He also allegedly made provocative religious and communal references, raising concerns about national integrity and public harmony.

Police sources state that his comments were found to be in violation of multiple sections of the IPC, and he has been taken into custody under charges related to sedition and disturbing communal harmony. The arrest was carried out from his residence amidst high security by a joint police team.

In response to the incident, Assam Assembly Speaker and AIUDF president Badruddin Ajmal clarified that the party has no connection with Islam’s personal opinions and controversial statements. He emphasized that Aminul’s remarks do not reflect the ideology of AIUDF and that the law will take its own course. He also added that if found guilty, Aminul must face the consequences.

Meanwhile, political and civil society circles are rife with discussions about whether such incidents are isolated or part of a larger attempt to polarize sentiments before elections. Several student leaders and activists have condemned the remarks and demanded strict action to deter future hate-driven narratives.

Law enforcement officials are now investigating the spread of similar content from other sources, and multiple arrests, including that of suspected instigators and social media handlers, are reportedly underway.
