
At Biswanath Ghat, Assam chief minister lays the foundation stone for the ropeway.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma  on Monday, March 31, laid the foundation stone for the ropeway connecting Biswanath Ghat to Umatumuni River Island.
Biswanath Ghat, known as ‘Gupta Kashi,’ is a key pilgrimage site, but access to Umatumuni is currently limited to boats, thereby posing risks. This 446 metre long ropeway, with a capacity of 300 passengers per hour, will ensure safe and seamless travel for devotees and tourists.
The project will be completed in 24 months, with a budget of Rs. 58.81 crore, boosting tourism, easing transport and benefiting the local economy. The design and model have been developed by Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati.
Meanwhile, CM Sarma laid the foundation stone for a 50-bed critical care block at SM Dev Civil Hospital in Silchar, marking a significant advancement in the region’s healthcare capabilities.
The new facility, which will span 6,335 square meters, is designed as a ground-plus-four-storey structure and will feature essential medical services, including an intensive care unit (ICU), operation theatre, isolation wards, and a pediatric care unit. The estimated cost for this project is Rs 24 crore.
During his visit, CM Sarma also inaugurated the work on a new circuit house in Silchar, stressing that these developments will contribute towards the overall betterment of healthcare and infrastructure in the region.
