Encroachers are removed from 1,000 bighas of Dahikata restricted forest land by the Assam eviction effort.

B O News Desk : Authorities in Goalpara district launched a major eviction operation on November 9, clearing approximately 1,000 bighas of encroached land from the Dahikata Reserved Forest area.

The drive, which commenced at 5 am, saw government bulldozers moving into the forest zone as part of the state administration’s renewed effort to reclaim protected land.

Officials reported that whilst some evicted individuals attempted to disrupt proceedings, police and district authorities swiftly contained the situation.

Abdul Hai, a leader of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), was amongst those detained at the site during the operation.

District officials noted that a portion of the encroachers had already vacated the land voluntarily following a recent announcement by the Chief Minister regarding the planned eviction. However, the administration proceeded with the enforcement action to ensure complete clearance of the reserved forest area.

The Dahikata Reserved Forest has faced persistent encroachment issues over the years, with illegal settlements gradually eating into protected land. Today’s operation marks the latest in a series of eviction drives the state government has undertaken to reclaim forest areas.

Authorities have not yet announced whether similar operations are planned for other districts where forest encroachment has been reported.
