Following a village conflict, Ukhrul District is subject to indefinite curbs.

The Manipur government has imposed indefinite movement restrictions after a bloody fight between two villages over a land issue resulted in one death  and five injuries.

Authorities reported Thursday a clash between people of Lungreiphung Tang and Shangching villages involving an exchange of gunfire.

Ramyon RK, 36, was reported to have been killed, with three from the Shangching village and two from Lungreiphung Tang getting injured.

To curb the violence, Additional District Magistrate Polly Makan put prohibitory orders to limit movement in both villages to avoid any further unrest.

“Ukhrul Superintendent of Police has reported the likelihood of disturbances arising from a continuing dispute over land that poses a grave threat to peace and public peace,” the government order said. It cautioned that the situation may deteriorate, leading to loss of life and property.

The ban took effect at 2:30 pm on Thursday and will continue until further notice. The directive also bans any procession without prior approval.
