Ration Card Holder Women to Get Cooking Gas at ₹600: Assam CM
Silchar, April 29: In a major announcement aimed at providing relief to households, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma declared on Saturday that women holding ration cards will now be able to purchase cooking gas cylinders at a subsidized rate of ₹600 per month.
Addressing a public rally during an election campaign, the Chief Minister said the government has taken a new decision to ease the burden of rising LPG prices, specifically benefiting ration card holders.
“Many mothers have spoken to me about the soaring prices of cooking gas. Taking their concerns into account, we have decided that women with ration cards will now receive cooking gas for just ₹600,” Sarma stated.
He also announced that starting from October, ration card holders will not only receive rice but also dal, salt, and other essential commodities through the public distribution system.
Highlighting the government’s welfare initiatives, Sarma emphasized that ration cards are now the gateway to a wide range of benefits — from free education to health insurance services — initiatives that no previous government had envisioned.
The move is expected to benefit thousands of families across Assam, offering both economic relief and greater food security.
