To safeguard Hoolock Gibbons, a unique overhead bridge was built in Jorhat.
In a significant measure aimed towards wildlife conversation in the region, a specialized overhead bridge has been built in order to enable hooklook gibbon  to safely cross over the railway tracks in Jorhat.
The primary purpose of this innovative structure is to eliminate the risks posed by trains cruising at high speeds and overhead electrification wires which has jeopardized the lives of local fauna present in the area.
This groundbreaking initiative to protect the region’s diverse wildlife has been informed by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma who took to social media to share this exciting news.
CM Sharma also announced plans to construct similar bridges that would serve the same purpose across the state. This progressive approach adopted by the concerned authorities demonstrates the unwavering commitment of the state government to preserve the rich biodiversity of the region and provide a secure environment for its precious wildlife.
Meanwhile, in a similar initiative earlier this year, Assam’s Bongaigaon district installed four loop bridges for the safe crossing of Golden Langurs across busy roadways in a significant move towards wildlife conservation.
This helps reduce the danger that these endangered primates encounter as they roam through their habitats, which have been increasingly threatened by man-made infrastructure.
The bridges act as vital wildlife corridors that enable Golden Langurs to cross busy highways without the risk of accidents. Strategically placed in areas where the primates are frequently spotted, these structures ensure that they can access essential resources while avoiding dangerous encounters with vehicles.
