While awaiting Centre approval, Himanta Biswa Sarma teases plans for a new zoo in Dibrugarh.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced an ambitious plan to establish a state-of-the-art zoo in Dibrugarh, mirroring the model of the existing Guwahati zoo.

During a recent interaction, the Chief Minister revealed that the state government has already begun preliminary work and has initiated the process of obtaining the required permissions from the National Zoo Authority in New Delhi.

“We have started engaging with Delhi to secure necessary clearances. One of my goals is to build a beautiful zoo in Dibrugarh for the people, just like the one in Guwahati,” Sarma stated.

While the exact timeline for the project remains uncertain, the Chief Minister expressed optimism that work on the zoo’s construction would commence in the near future once the central approvals are in place. “I haven’t mentioned the month because I’m not sure how long the clearance process will take. But we are moving ahead steadily,” he added.

If realized, the proposed zoo would serve as a major attraction in upper Assam, boosting both tourism and wildlife conservation awareness in the region.
