In Guwahati, a railway officer is detained on suspicion of killing his wife.

Rahul Singh, the station master of Kendukona railway station in Assam’s Kamrup district, who had been absconding after allegedly murdering his wife, was arrested in Guwahati, police said. Singh was apprehended more than two weeks after his wife, Anjali Singh, was found stabbed to death in their home on July 2, a crime reportedly witnessed by their two children. Investigators revealed that after fleeing the scene, Singh had been working in disguise as a private security guard in the city. He was traced and detained with assistance from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Forensic Department.

A disturbing audio clip, purportedly sent by the victim to relatives prior to her death, came to light during the investigation. In it, Anjali accused her husband and mother-in-law of ongoing mental and physical abuse, and said Singh had threatened her life. She implored her relatives to hold him responsible if anything should happen to her. Following his arrest, Singh was remanded to four days of police custody as authorities continue to investigate the case.

To improve connectivity in Assam, a second rail-cum-road bridge at Saraighat has been approved.

Assam: A man is detained for reportedly using a stone slab to kill his wife.

Two are detained by the NIA in an Assam IED conspiracy connected to ULFA(I).

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested two individuals, Bhargob Gogoi and Sumu Gogoi, from Assam’s Dibrugarh district in connection with a plot by the banned militant group ULFA (Independent) to carry out a series of IED blasts across Assam during last year’s Independence Day celebrations. According to officials, the accused were directly involved in the conspiracy to plant explosives aimed at spreading fear and destabilizing the region. The arrests bring the total number of suspects held in the case to three. The NIA, which took over the investigation from Dispur Police in September 2023, continues to probe what it describes as a terror conspiracy aimed at disrupting peace and threatening national security.
