NDRF officer Pankaj K stated that the teams are working professionally and are aware of the trapped individual’s location. With 4-5 feet of debris still to be cleared and large boulders obstructing access, the rescue operation is expected to conclude within the next 1.5 hours.

Assam police arrested four individuals, including a college lecturer, in Morigaon district on June 7 for allegedly duping people by promising jobs at the Tata group’s upcoming semiconductor unit in Jagiroad. The accused, led by alleged mastermind Tarikul Ahmed who posed as an engineer, created fake WhatsApp groups and offered fraudulent job opportunities to unemployed youths in Nagaon and Morigaon, collecting lakhs of rupees from victims. The scammers issued fake appointment and interview letters to deceive hundreds of aspirants. Police investigations revealed large sums were deposited in one of the accused’s accounts. Authorities have urged the public to verify job offers and report suspicious activities to prevent such scams

On June 6, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma conducted an on-ground review of the flood-hit districts in Barak Valley, directing Deputy Commissioners of Cachar and Hailakandi to ensure the emergency supply of essential items. The flood crisis in Assam has intensified, with six more deaths reported on Tuesday, raising this year’s toll from floods and landslides to 17, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA). Over 6.33 lakh people across 21 districts have been affected, with Sribhumi, Nagaon, and Cachar among the worst-hit areas. More than 1,500 villages are inundated, forcing nearly 40,000 people to seek shelter in 223 relief camps. Seven rivers, including the Brahmaputra, are flowing above danger levels, and extensive crop damage has been reported. Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma visited flood-affected areas in Cachar district, conducting a ground review of the crisis. Emphasizing a long-term flood mitigation strategy, he stressed the conservation of natural wetlands around Silchar as a sustainable solution.
Touring six major relief camps, the CM interacted with displaced residents and directed officials to ensure uninterrupted essential services, particularly for vulnerable groups. He also reviewed infrastructure projects, including the Berenga embankment and Katigora Gammon Setu, while announcing deeper drilling for stable roadwork in Tarapur Shibbari.

Air India discontinues its 50-year flight from Silchar to Kolkata.
